Mecklenburg County school board approves supplemental appropriations, budget transfers

The Mecklenburg County School Board on a voice/roll-call vote approved multiple budget adjustments, including a supplemental appropriation of about $2.6 million and several intra‑fund transfers to cover current expenses.

School finance staff told the board they requested a category transfer of $266,000 from construction to transportation to cover system expenses; a supplemental appropriation of approximately $2.6 million from excess state revenue to support maintenance and operations and instruction; a transfer of $35,000 to the county capital fund after fiscal‑year 2025 obligations are paid; and a food‑services budget transfer of about $349,000 to cover that department’s expenses.

The board approved the supplemental appropriations and transfers during the meeting after the finance presentation. The motion to approve supplemental appropriations was moved and seconded and carried on a roll call in which board members voted yes. Board members and staff said the supplemental funds come from higher‑than‑expected state revenue for the year and will be used for projects and instruction rather than new ongoing programs.
