High school renovation progresses; board hears contingency, CTE prep-day and warranty updates

Budget and contingencies: Staff reported about $870,000 remains in construction contingency accounts. They said roughly half a million dollars is the working estimate to return to unfinished site work and that the remaining contingency will determine what exterior work can be completed. County and finance staff are reviewing the project accounts to identify exact balances before deciding on additional site work.
Warranties and punch lists: Board members raised past warranty concerns at Paige Elementary as a caution. Staff said some warranties (for wall work) had expired at Paige and that warranty coverage varies by component; they said the high school roofing system carries a different warranty (the presenter stated the high school roofing warranty is 20 years) and that retainage and punch-list leverage remain tools the district will use to ensure contractors complete outstanding items.
Career and technical education (CTE) and teacher prep days: Board members asked about giving CTE teachers additional paid days before school to set up specialized equipment and shops. Operations said they will bring a proposal to the board for extra paid days for CTE program coordinators so new and returning CTE teachers have time to prepare, with details to be included in the upcoming budget cycle.
What this means: The district expects the renovated spaces to be ready for late July/early August events and the start of school. Site work priorities will focus on safety items such as separating bus and student traffic if funds permit.
