Andy Meadows (department staff) outlined the schedule: artwork will be collected and adjudicated (adjudication scheduled for Jan. 22, notification to schools by Jan. 31), elementary and secondary exhibits will rotate through the state capitol on a staggered schedule (elementary display in February; secondary display in March), and the board will present awards the Wednesday prior to the March meeting. Meadows said roughly 750 works are collected and rotated during the capital exhibit period.
The board also read a resolution to recognize Diana Virgil, a school counselor from Littleville High School, as the 2024 National School Counselor of the Year; staff said they hoped to have her attend the next meeting for a formal recognition. The board read a proclamation designating February as Alabama Career and Technical Education Month and discussed related musical and student performances that will appear at upcoming board meetings in February, March and April.
