The Omaha City Council on July 7 approved the final plat for Heartland of America Park replat 2, a downtown riverfront parcel that developers say will host the Omaha Children’s Museum, Beam Apartments and a city parking garage. Planning staff recommended approval.
Cordell Mika, representing New South Development, told the council the site will accommodate the museum, apartments and a parking structure. Council Member Festersen voiced support for the mixed-use plan and asked about the Children’s Museum schedule; Mika said New South Development is on track to deliver a site-ready parcel in September and that the museum’s design development is expected later this fall, with construction scheduled for completion in 2027.
The council approved the final plat on a 7-0 vote. The action clears a key land-use step for the riverfront mixed-use project and allows project partners to continue fundraising, design development and construction preparation.
