Fire Chief Jeremy Longcard said the award is covered by a subaward from the Nevada Division of Forestry under the Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program and that the district's current plan is expiring. The request followed a standard request-for-qualifications process; staff recommended SWCA as the top-scoring respondent.
Longcard told commissioners the updated plan will be a shared county document prepared in collaboration with emergency management and that SWCA proposed a condensed public-facing version to help community understanding. He estimated an 18-month timeline for completion.
Fire Commissioner Mitchell moved to approve the award; the motion passed unanimously. Longcard said updating the plan is necessary for eligibility for future federal funding and will support stronger community wildfire readiness.
