Wayne County sets public hearing to apply mobile-home park standards to RV parks

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners on July 15 set a public hearing for August to consider amending the county mobile-home park ordinance to apply its standards to recreational-vehicle (RV) parks.
Barry Gray requested the amendment during the meeting, saying that while RVs are defined in the existing ordinance, RV parks are often excluded from mobile-home park standards. Gray said the change would "close that loophole" and require RV parks to meet standards similar to mobile-home parks for the safety of renters, including standards for fire-hydrant access, road surface and width, and turnaround/cul-de-sac requirements for emergency vehicles. Staff clarified the ordinance would require unpaved roads to be gravel with a specified depth and width (the exact measurements will be part of the draft amendment presented at the hearing).
Board members expressed support for scheduling a hearing; staff asked the board to call for the hearing at the next meeting in August at 9:30 a.m. to receive public comment on the proposed amendment.
No formal amendment to the ordinance was adopted at the July meeting; the item was scheduled for a public hearing to receive community input and for staff to bring back proposed ordinance language.
