- Wayne County Sheriff's Office, early intervention: $406,032 for juvenile detective and drug-curriculum instruction roles in schools. - Wayne County Public Schools, early intervention: $485,139 for a comprehensive student screening process in collaboration with educational and health professionals. - Hope Center Ministries, recovery support services: $440,496 to enhance recovery services. - 4 Day Movement Inc., recovery support services: $150,000 for temporary housing and support services (staff said this award covers a three-year period). - ATS of North Carolina, evidence-based addiction treatment: $75,000 for medication-assisted treatment for underinsured residents. - CALM (Wayne County Coalition for Addiction and Life Management), recovery support services: $243,000 for community outreach coordination. - Cry Freedom Ministries, Narcan distribution and training: $10,000 for kits and training. - Wayne County Health Department, recovery support services: $450,000 for a post-overdose response program. - Hope Restorations Inc., reentry program: $318,000 to support people recovering from addiction or incarceration. - Medication-assisted treatment at Wayne County Detention Center: $183,040 to provide MAT services at the jail.
Commissioners asked whether some awards were one-time payments or paid in increments; staff replied that several awards were spread across a three-year period, and the county follows an application schedule (generally in spring each year) but can consider urgent requests in special circumstances. Staff also noted additional settlement proceeds (Purdue Pharma) may be forthcoming and could substantially increase local allocations; timing and term lengths vary by defendant (Walmart, CVS and others have different payout terms). One commissioner noted a county program did not apply in the current cycle and could apply in a future round; staff confirmed interested applicants may apply on the next schedule.
