County staff asked commissioners to approve an updated interlocal agreement with the Town of Broadway that would add language authorizing the county to collect and remit fire district taxes related to five parcels annexed into the town.
Staff said the 2020 interlocal agreement between Harnett County and Broadway did not address fire district taxes; Broadway contracts with the Cape Fear Bridal Fire Department to provide protection inside municipal boundaries, and the legal department revised the agreement to add language (on page 3, and a superseding clause on page 6, item I) authorizing the county's tax office to remit fire district taxes for the annexed parcels. The revised agreement would supersede prior agreements and, per the presentation, would be effective July 1.
Commissioners moved the item to the consent agenda for a future meeting; no roll-call vote was recorded in the transcript during the discussion.
