Eric Holden of the Texas Workforce Commission’s Unemployment Insurance Division told commissioners the federal disaster declaration for severe storms and flooding beginning July 2 authorized individual assistance, including Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), for Kerr County and, after an amendment, for Burnet, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson counties.
Holden said the deadline to apply for DUA benefits under that disaster is Sept. 4, 2025, and the last payable week for DUA benefits is the week ending Jan. 10, 2026. As of the morning of the meeting, he reported 28 DUA claims and another 215 regular unemployment claims that listed disaster effects.
Holden described several operational steps TWC has taken to support affected customers: activating disaster tracking on the Unemployment Benefit Services system so customers can mark they were affected; adding area code 830 to telephone routing so callers from the affected region can reach telecenters; pausing collection actions for affected employers; monitoring and waiving penalties for late quarter reports for affected employers; and deploying a UI field specialist to distribute posters and flyers in the impacted areas.
Holden closed his update by noting those steps were complete for the purposes of his report; no commissioners asked substantive follow‑up questions in the transcript.
