WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — At the July 14 council meeting City Manager Goff updated the council on property and redevelopment matters: the city issued a letter of intent to buy Parcel A for a consolidated public‑works and parks shop but the seller failed to sign the contract by the required date; the owner of an adjacent Parcel B has offered land that staff say is about 25,000 square feet larger and $1,000,000 less than Parcel A, and staff have submitted a letter of interest for Parcel B.
Goff asked councilors if there were concerns about pursuing the alternate parcel; none were raised during the meeting. The city will continue negotiations and return with next steps if negotiations proceed.
Goff also reported that Xcel Energy will begin reinforcement work to increase power supply for the I‑70 Key Plan area and that the property owner of the American Motel has issued a notice to proceed for demolition, abatement and demo work. Staff said demolition should take about five months, after which construction of new apartments is expected to begin.
Councilors asked about public notification and celebratory planning for demolition milestones; staff said they will announce work plans and aim to be respectful of the business community while marking the corridor cleanup milestone.
