District solicits janitorial bids, weighing local vendors against savings in three-year contracts

Superintendent Dustin said the district is not currently under a janitorial contract and has had several companies submit bids. "We have received 3 bids 4 bids. And so now I'm meeting with those folks who've given the bid to say, okay. Describe this to me, and what are the services that you're looking to offer us," he said.
Dustin said the administration is evaluating options such as centralized building delivery, inventory management by the vendor and multi-year pricing to achieve bulk savings. He emphasized the district’s interest in price first, with service and reputation as secondary priorities.
Board members raised the trade-off between supporting local businesses and obtaining lower prices from large corporate vendors. "I wanna support local businesses. I do. I think it's important," Dustin said, adding the district may ask local bidders to match pricing if possible.
A board member referenced a prior figure of roughly $271,000 for 2024 as a context point for the district’s expenditure on janitorial-related services; staff said they would provide exact numbers to the board on request. The superintendent said he anticipates providing a fuller recommendation by the August meeting.
No contract was approved at the meeting; the bidding process remains under review.
