Haywood County Schools board OKs contracts for nursing, ABA and Medicaid billing

The Haywood County Schools Board of Education approved a set of contracts on a motion-and-vote during its regular meeting, agreeing to renew a nursing contract, hire consultants for special-education staff training, contract for in-class applied behavior analysis services and accept a pro bono agreement to permit Medicaid billing.

District staff member Miss Stevenson presented the package, beginning with a contract renewal with BAYADA Healthcare for a nurse to serve an individual student. The board approved the renewal on a motion by Mr. Henson with a second by Miss Morris; the motion carried unanimously.
Stevenson next presented a consulting agreement with Kelly Warner for coaching and professional development for special-education staff. District discussion noted this consultant is new compared with prior years’ vendors. The board approved that contract on a motion by Mr. Burnett and a second; the motion carried unanimously.
The board then approved a contract with Positive Behavior Support Corporation to provide applied behavior-analysis therapy and to place registered behavior technicians or ABA therapists in classrooms for students with autism or other diagnoses. Mr. Nez moved the contract and Mr. Rogers seconded; the board voted unanimously to approve.
Finally, Stevenson presented a pro bono agreement with Dr. Michael Brown so the district can obtain his medical signature and bill Medicaid for therapy services. Mr. Henson moved approval and the motion was seconded; the board voted unanimously.
Board members asked few substantive questions during the motions; each of the four items passed without recorded opposition. The contracts will be implemented by district staff under existing program structures.
