County advances plans, schedule and bid dates for new secondary roads maintenance facility and office building; cost estimates near $5.6 million

Worth County supervisors reviewed final plans, schedule and cost estimates for a new secondary roads maintenance facility and an associated office building, and approved resolutions to set public hearing and bid letting dates.

County consultants walked supervisors through site plans, floor plans and elevations for two projects: a pre-engineered metal maintenance facility (about 22,270 square feet) and a conventional wood-frame office building (about 3,640 square feet). The maintenance building includes heated storage, a wash bay, a workshop, locker rooms and a mezzanine; the office building includes engineering and conservation offices, a training room and a protected IT area. Plans call for site grading, extension of an 8-inch sanitary sewer, water-main extension, stormwater ponds for infiltration, one generator to serve multiple buildings, fob access for personnel and overhead doors, and radiant tube heating in the maintenance facility.

An estimate presented at the meeting put the office building at $855,000 and the maintenance building at $4,100,000; when a related conservation project ($580,000) is included, the total shown in the meeting materials is about $5.58 million. County staff said they expect a competitive bidding environment and proposed bid dates to allow construction to proceed through fall of the next year if schedules hold.

Supervisors approved two resolutions to set the public hearing and bid letting dates: Resolution 2025-25 (engineering and conservation office) and Resolution 2025-26 (secondary roads maintenance facility). During roll-call votes, Supervisor Stone and Supervisor Lowberg were recorded as voting "aye" on the resolutions and the motions carried.

Why it matters: The projects replace and consolidate county facilities, affect capital budgets, and require coordination among multiple county departments and contractors. The estimates presented will form the basis for budgeting and bond/loan decisions.

Next steps: Staff will post bid documents, accept bids per the adopted schedule (posted bid dates were discussed for July 25 with contract award on July 28), and return to the board for contract award and construction oversight.
