Lake County board gets update: tower trench filled, Lumen backhaul scheduled; last steps remain

Lake County officials updated the E-911 board on remaining work to bring a new radio/tower path online, including trench completion and an anticipated Lumen backhaul date on Aug. 7, while noting outstanding installation and billing questions.
Claire Hathaway and other board members reported that the trench for the tower’s power/backhaul conduit has been refilled. State-supplied DTR (digital trunking radio) equipment has been ordered and was expected to be delivered to the state shop in Golden; staff did not have a firm date for when equipment would arrive locally. County staff said the state is coordinating connections that also require Grand Junction equipment to be complete.
Hathaway said backhaul scheduling had repeatedly been rescheduled and that Lumen was tentatively scheduled to be on-site for backhaul on Aug. 7. Staff warned that timing has shifted previously and that final operational readiness depends on state and vendor deliveries.
The board also discussed who would bear costs for filling the trench. The contractor who filled the trench submitted a $1,500 bill; Hathaway said she had expected public works to handle the fill and asked county management to clarify responsibility for that invoice.
Ending: With the trench refilled, the board said it will continue to monitor delivery of DTR equipment and the scheduled Lumen backhaul on Aug. 7. Staff will follow up with county public works and the county manager on the $1,500 trench bill and report back to the board.
