County committee approves permit for Nelson Lake (Town of Lenroot) boat landing restoration

The Sawyer County Land, Water and Forest Resources Committee approved a shoreline-alteration permit request from the Town of Lenroot to restore and regrade an existing boat landing at Nelson Lake.

Applicant and need Brett Danielson, a Town of Lenroot supervisor, described a decades-old boat landing that has become difficult to use because of a raised “hump” and shallow shoreline. He requested county concurrence to dig and regrade the landing above the high-water mark, add pit-run material from town stockpiles and install an L-shaped dock for community use; the town held a majority vote in favor at its June meeting and agreed to provide materials and machine time from town resources if the county permitted the work.

County review and approval County staff advised the committee that the landing is on county-owned land (part of Sawyer County Forest) and that the county would issue a shoreline-alteration permit after a letter of concurrence from the Forestry Department. County forester Greg (surname not specified in transcript) confirmed forestry concurrence with the project provided permits and ordinary protections are obtained. Committee members moved and approved a motion to allow issuance of the permit; the committee noted that highway department support would be minimal (about a half-day of equipment time) and that the county would not contribute further funding.
