U.N. condemns resumed Houthi attacks in Red Sea after ships sunk, crew missing

The United Nations condemned the recent resumption of Houthi attacks on civilian vessels transiting the Red Sea, calling the sinkings and reported crew casualties a “dangerous re-escalation” that endangers seafarers and violates international law.
Spokesperson Steph said the secretary-general deplored the sinking of the motor vessels Magic Seas and Eternity Sea, which the U.N. said led to the deaths of at least four crew members and injuries to others, with 15 crew reported missing. The U.N. called on parties not to impede search-and-rescue efforts for crew still missing.
The spokesperson said the attacks also contravene U.N. Security Council guidance and underlined the U.N.’s commitment to continued diplomatic engagement with Yemeni and regional actors to pursue de-escalation and a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Yemen.
