Albany City School District board swears in new member, elects officers at reorganizational meeting

The Albany City School District Board of Education held its reorganizational meeting and administered oaths of office, welcomed newly elected board member Austin Wolfgang and elected the board’s officers for the 2025–26 school year.

Paul Loy, legal counsel to the district, opened the reorganizational portion of the meeting and asked for a motion to elect him chair pro tem for the meeting. The motion was seconded by Dr. Sridhar Chatur and Board Member Tabitha Wilson and carried unanimously.

Judge Joshua Farrell administered the oath to Austin Wolfgang, who told the board he is “excited to get the opportunity to make our schools a better place” and credited family and community supporters for his election. After the oath, the board proceeded with nominations and votes for officer positions.

Board Member Mann nominated Dr. Sridhar Chatur for president; the board’s vote to elect Dr. Chatur carried with a unanimous voice vote recorded with one abstention. Tabitha Wilson was nominated and sworn in as vice president. Ellen Krejci was nominated and sworn in as secretary. Each officer repeated the required oath to “support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York” and to “faithfully discharge the duties” of the office.

The board took a group photograph and then continued with the remainder of the agenda. The actions taken at the reorganizational portion were procedural: temporary chair selection, the swearing-in of officers and the new board member, and the formal election of officers for the year.

Looking ahead, the district continues its summer schedule of committee meetings and plans to finalize additional policies and action items at upcoming meetings.
