Beauregard Parish School Board maintenance staff reported progress on repairs and capital projects and outlined remaining 2023 bond projects and funding estimates.
Maintenance staff said they opened 167 work tickets since late June and closed 141, leaving 25 open: 8 HVAC, 4 electrical, 4 carpenter, 3 cafeteria, 1 paint and 5 other items (roof leaks, keys, floor tile). Officials said in‑house installation of split air‑conditioning units on two projects saved more than $100,000 compared with outside contractors.
The district reported that its chiller at Dritter High School was restarted after a shutdown and that, parishwide, about 68% of air‑conditioning capacity is at full function. Maintenance staff said they were evaluating a replacement maintenance contractor for locations that house chillers, including South Boulevard High School and DeRidder High School, and would return to the board with vetted proposals in August or September.
Project updates included an estimated Sept. 12 completion date for South Boulevard athletic bleachers—timed for the district's first home game—and ongoing restroom and parking work at Senior High and DeRidder Junior High. Staff said some prefab components required off‑site correction, which delayed parts of the press‑box and bleacher work.
The maintenance report also reviewed remaining 2023 bond projects and built in estimated overages tied to updated ADA and safety code requirements. Staff presented a bond fund summary showing an estimated $4,900,000 remaining after existing and projected work. The superintendent said the board could consider bidding an additional roughly $1,000,000 AC project in August to further increase efficient cooling across the district.
Officials said they expect a $275,000 reimbursement related to Hurricane Laura recovery from FEMA, and that insurance and FEMA processes may conclude by year end. The report was informational; no formal board action was taken on the maintenance items during the meeting.
