The commission unanimously approved PLN MJDP 25-32 (Interstate Park property, Boonsboro Manor) on July 10, permitting a quick-service drive-through (Taco Bell) and associated site circulation changes on a site at 5354 Athens Boonesborough Road.
Fritz Alderman of Karpinski Engineering spoke for the restaurant developer and said the design accommodates firefighting apparatus and makes standard stacking for a drive-through available. “I can assure that we can get a fire truck around that store to fight fire, and they can pick up their tacos at the drive through if they need to,” Alderman said.
Traffic engineering requested the site be revised to one-way circulation with angled parking to support stacking and maintain safe flow through the lot. Stephanie Blaine of Palmer Engineering affirmed that change, noting traffic requested the modification to prevent a conflict between two-way lot traffic and stacking at the drive-through.
Staff provided a pink-sheet of final technical cleanups and conditions. Commissioners voted to approve the development plan with the staff's conditions and the project will proceed to technical review and permitting.
