Historical commission approves minutes and forwards two 1980s town maps to council for accession

The Flower Mound Historical Commission voted unanimously to approve the minutes from its June 12, 2025 meeting and to accept two historic maps offered to the town for its collection, moving the maps to the town council consent agenda for formal accession.

At the meeting staff presented two flat maps donated by Mark Glover: an early Flower Mound New Town Comprehensive Open Space Plan (estimated about 1982) and a Flower Mound Newtown Contour and Thoroughfare map (estimated about 1985). Staff noted the maps are fragile and recommended they be scanned by county resources rather than displayed long term. The donor and staff indicated the county has a large‑format scanner available and that, because of fragility and ink/dye sensitivity, the items should not remain on public display for extended periods.

Commissioners made a motion to accept the two maps and to forward the acceptance to the next available town council consent agenda; the motion passed by roll call with all commissioners voting “Aye.” Earlier in the meeting the commission also approved the consent item to accept the minutes by a separate unanimous roll‑call vote.

Staff said acceptance under the town’s collection policy is the commission’s typical first step; final accession will occur once the town council places the items on its consent agenda and votes. Staff recommended scanning the maps for preservation and public access and indicated they would coordinate with Denton County for digitization services.
