Council approves donation of 20 surplus handheld radios to North Bannock Fire District

Fire Department staff said the radios are no longer used by Idaho Falls Fire; Deputy Chief Bradford and Chief Nelson recommended donation under the city's surplus property policy. "We are allowed through state statute to donate to a governmental unit," staff said.
Council members discussed the radios' age and value. One councilor noted the radios are likely about 20 years old; staff said batteries can still be obtained and the radios can be reprogrammed to match North Bannock's system. "It's a volunteer kind of a fire department, so they don't have much money," staff said.
Councilor Larson moved approval of the donation and authorized the mayor and city clerk to execute the documents. The motion passed on council roll call.
