Cedar Park unveils interactive capital‑projects dashboard; council approves $1.73M Brush Creek Sports Park upgrades

The Cedar Park City Council on July 10 received a quarterly update on capital‑improvement projects, previewed a new interactive projects dashboard and approved a contract to upgrade Brush Creek Sports Park.
Randy, identified in the presentation as the director of engineering and capital projects, showed progress photos of the 2022 bond public‑safety training facility and detailed a range of road‑work projects across the city, including mill‑and‑overlay work, neighborhood overlays and the New Hope Drive/183A project under construction. "Construction is still on pace to be complete sometime in spring of next year," Randy said about the public‑safety training facility, and he showed images of conduit, pond retaining walls and culvert work on Avenue of the Stars.
Ashley Smith, an intern in the city manager's office, introduced the newly launched CP Capital Projects dashboard. "CP Capital Projects allows you to search for projects based on phase, status and category," she said. The dashboard includes maps, budget details, photos and a quarterly update template for project managers.
On a separate agenda item, staff recommended and the council authorized the city manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Mills Development and Construction for Brush Creek Sports Park improvements. The authorized amount is not to exceed $1,733,502.34 and the contract term is 150 calendar days. Project work includes fenced field improvements, drainage and infield upgrades, parking expansion, a new metal maintenance building and controlled gates to reduce unauthorized use. Paul Naughton of Engineering and Capital Projects said the city received 10 proposals and selected Mills Development through the competitive sealed proposal process in accordance with Texas Government Code 2269.
The contract passed unanimously.
Why it matters: The dashboard provides a public, searchable view of ongoing and recently completed capital projects. The Brush Creek contract funds drainage and durability upgrades that staff said will make high‑use sports fields more resilient and reduce recurring maintenance demands.
What’s next: Staff will post project updates to the new dashboard each quarter; Brush Creek construction is scheduled to proceed under the awarded contract and is subject to the city's normal construction and permitting schedule.
