Price City recognizes local eighth-grader Drake Tont for state rodeo title and national finish

Price City Council publically recognized local eighth-grader Drake Tont at its July 9 meeting for winning the Utah state junior-high light-rifle rodeo championship and finishing fourth nationally at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo.
Mayor and council members read a posted account celebrating Tont’s season, noting he won every regular-season rodeo event in his division, swept the state finals and placed fourth at nationals among about 160 competitors. Family members, including his parents and grandmother, attended; the Southeastern Utah Junior High Rodeo Club secretary Emily Ware was named in remarks praising his accomplishment.
Council members congratulated Tont and presented Price City merchandise for him to wear when representing the city at future events. Tont described the competitive format — prone, standing and kneeling positions — and said he shoots .22 caliber. Council members and the public applauded the recognition.
The recognition was placed on the agenda as a non-action civic commendation; no formal vote was required.
