U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon faced stone-throwing and found weapons caches, U.N. says

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that peacekeepers on patrol in southern Lebanon encountered aggressive behavior from a group of individuals who blocked the patrol and threw stones.
The U.N. spokesperson said peacekeepers used nonlethal smoke grenades to disperse the crowd and that the Lebanese Armed Forces subsequently arrived and brought the situation under control. The spokesperson reminded that attacks on peacekeepers are a serious violation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and called on Lebanese authorities to hold perpetrators accountable.
UNIFIL also reported finding two unauthorized weapons caches in Sector West that included tunnels with nonoperational cannon as well as operational rockets and explosives; another discovery in Sector East turned up unauthorized ammunition. The briefing said all caches were referred to the Lebanese Armed Forces for disposal.
The U.N. spokesperson added that UNIFIL observed continued Israeli Defense Forces presence and air and ground activities, including in the area of Kafir Qila, and that peacekeepers recorded multiple IDF activities in their area of operations in the previous day. The U.N. said it continues impartial monitoring and reporting under the Security Council mandate.
