The New Orleans City Council on July 10 presented proclamations recognizing lifeguards from the Stallings Gentilly Pool after a recent on-duty rescue in which lifeguards revived a swimmer who had lost consciousness.
Council members and New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) staff praised the training, endurance and courage of seasonal and year-round lifeguards. NORD officials said all training is conducted in-house and highlighted the role of aquatics leadership, including Director of Aquatics Jell ("JJ") Jones and other managers, in recruiting, training and retaining staff. Larry Barabino, speaking on behalf of NORD, thanked the council and highlighted that Stallings Gentilly is the most highly utilized seasonal pool in the city.
Council remarks urged residents to visit Stallings Gentilly and commended lifeguard professionalism. The council presented proclamations to named lifeguards including Anthony Montgomery Jr., Jerry Honore III, Chandler Sears, Cameron Morris, Gazelle Williams, Jalen Honore, Arum Albach, Dean Albach, Hector Campbell and Jules Bruno. A photo opportunity followed the presentation.
The council described the action as a formal recognition of lifesaving service rather than a policy item; no vote was required.
