Planning commission approves Veritas Preparatory School modular expansion at Sheckler Road site

Dean Patterson, senior planner, said the school previously operated on the site with modular buildings and that the proposed addition — three units, each with two classrooms — would accommodate a maximum projected enrollment of up to 190 students (a cap the application described as unlikely to be reached). Patterson said no public comments were received, including no responses from the Nevada Department of Transportation regarding Schackeler Road.
Applicant representatives Amanda Hammond and David Ernst were present and confirmed the proposal essentially restores the prior campus layout; staff found no issues and recommended approval with conditions. Commissioner Scott Nelson moved to approve the SUP in conformance with Churchill County code; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. A standard 10-day appeal period applies.
