The Peoria Unified Governing Board voted 5‑0 on July 9 to approve adoption of a policy manual provided by the Arizona School Risk Retention Trust that will become the district’s baseline policy framework.
Superintendent Summers and staff told the board the manual consolidates Trust model policies and incorporates Peoria’s existing “unique” policies. Staff said the manual uses a Trust‑specific numbering system (for example, 1‑100 for foundational statements) and that a small number of typographical issues and numbering irregularities remain to be corrected; legal counsel Susan Siegel said minor scrivener edits can be handled with the Trust. The board approved the manual with the expectation that staff would continue to reconcile and publish the policy set and provide orientation/training for board members, principals and the public.
Board members asked for an index and a public‑facing way to access the policies on the district website; staff said Trust staff would help with web publication and would provide a training webinar or study session to orient trustees, principals and community users. Several members asked staff to flag district‑specific policies that require special attention and to provide a schedule for deep reviews of substantive chapters (for example, sections affecting students, employment and facilities).
Action: Motion to approve and adopt the policy manual provided by the Arizona School Risk Retention Trust carried by voice vote with five yesses. Staff will work with Trust representatives to finalize numbering errors, publish the manual on the district website, and present training and targeted deep dives at future board meetings.
