Summary
Staff reported construction progress on Nevada Energy's Sierra Solar Phase 1; the project is on a three-year schedule with completion anticipated in April 2027 and will return for review next year.
The Churchill County Planning Commission received an update July 9 on Special Use Permit SUP1103 for phase 1 of the Sierra Solar Renewable Energy Facility on Sage Hen Creek Road but took no action.
Randy Hynes, Public Works Planning and Building director, said the project is in year one of an approximately three-year build and is anticipated to be complete by April 2027. Hynes reported that several permits have been obtained, including a surface area disturbance permit and the Stormwater Pollution Prevention (SWPPP) approvals; Bureau of Land Management permits are also in place. New roads required by the project have been constructed and recorded, and the county road department has accepted the roads subject to a final inspection upon project completion.
Hynes said most building permits have been obtained except for the O&M building and shade structures; contractors are working on those permits now and will begin building the O&M facility once permits are finalized. Staff committed to another review in one year to monitor progress.
No one from Nevada Energy attended the meeting. Commissioners treated the presentation as an informational annual update rather than an item requiring a decision.
