Senior basketball players ask Boulder Parks staff to investigate injuries at North Boulder Recreation Center

Longtime participants in the North Boulder senior basketball program urged the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board on Monday to press recreation staff to take stronger action after a string of injuries they said were caused by a single player.

The comments, delivered during the board's public participation period, described several collisions and three medical incidents they linked to the same renter identified in the record with varying transcriptions (referred to in the transcript alternately as "Edgar Schandberg," "Pekka," "Petker" and similar). Players and family members described serious injuries, including a retinal tear that required urgent surgery.

The board's deputy director said staff had not previously received formal notice of the series of incidents and that he would follow up.
