Board approves K‑8 construction contracts: GMP for K‑8 #1, architects and CMAR for K‑8 #2

The Maricopa Unified School District governing board on July 9 approved a series of construction items tied to the district’s K‑8 school program, including a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for K‑8 school No. 1 and selection of design and construction teams for K‑8 school No. 2.
District staff said the GMP for K‑8 No. 1 is the final GMP after earlier early-procurement and critical-construction GMPs; permits were issued and the contractor was ready to mobilize. A board member asked who would carry tariff risk if material costs rise; staff and another board member answered that the GMP is a “not-to-exceed” contract, and the construction manager is responsible for costs within the agreed scope.
For K‑8 No. 2, the board approved Orcutt Winslow (listed on agenda as GHC Orcutt Winslow) as architect, Facility Management Group for project management services and selected Chase Building Team as the construction-manager-at-risk after a statutorily structured evaluation process that included architects, non-bidding contractors and district representatives.
Board members moved, seconded and approved each of the items without additional substantive questions.
Votes recorded on the items were unanimous in favor of each motion.
