At its July 9 meeting the City of Waukesha Landmarks Commission reviewed program balances for the paint-and-repair grant fund, heard a public comment about Hobo Spring restoration, and approved changes to the previous meeting minutes to reflect public commenters and correct attendance counts.
Charlie, the city’s preservation staff, told the commission the 2025 paint-and-repair allocation is $25,000, with $9,716 previously committed and about $15,284 remaining before the meeting’s actions. Charlie noted a leftover $350 from an incomplete project and said awards require county paperwork and SHPO review prior to payment.
Aaron Spencer, a resident of 630 West College Avenue, spoke during public comment to welcome new commissioners and urged continued attention to the restoration of Hobo Spring in Grama Park; commissioners thanked him and asked staff to keep him updated. Charlie said recent volunteer and student work had cleared muck from the spring’s basin and that Public Works removes clogs that block the drain to the river.
Commissioners also discussed and approved corrections to the previous meeting’s minutes so that public commenters are listed and the roll call attendance reflects seven voting members rather than an earlier erroneous count of four. The commission agreed to follow up with applicants who did not appear for scheduled items and to re-notice those items on a future agenda if necessary.
