Green River council approves up to $5,000 for medical center's back-to-school health event

Tyler Hunt, financial officer for the Green River Medical Center, told the council the event will offer free services intended for families preparing for the school year, including school immunizations, sports physicals and health education. "The real benefit is the promotion of good health throughout the community," Hunt said during his presentation.
Hunt gave the council a projected event budget of $11,500, which includes staff labor estimated at about $4,500. He said immunizations are a key offering but that the center was still negotiating with the health department to secure them at no cost; if the clinic must purchase vaccine doses, the total budget could rise. Hunt said the clinic is planning food, activities and roughly 200 attendees for the event and that the organizers intend to provide services for free if funding allows.
Council members asked about staffing and prior turnout; Hunt said the center ran a similar event in 2023 but said attendance was not formally tracked then. The council approved the funding request by motion; the city will also provide tables, chairs and canopies for the event and receive logo placement and acknowledgment in event materials.
The council did not specify additional reporting or follow-up requirements during the meeting.
