Canton board okays $77,800 for bridge and sidewalk gap design over Tonquish Creek

The motion was made by Clerk Kirk Siegrist, supported by Trustee Borninski, and passed by the board.
Staff said the bridge location was identified as a priority near Plymouth Christian School and Calvary Baptist Church and will improve connectivity to schools, parks and other destinations, supporting pedestrian and nonmotorized travel. The materials presented at the meeting state the design will fill sidewalk gaps and add bridges to improve mobility and access.
Director Norwood noted a clerical discrepancy during discussion, saying the amount would be $77,000 in one place but that the motion contained the correct $77,800 figure. The board confirmed the $77,800 amount and approved the purchase order along with an associated budget amendment.
The township’s engineering division previously awarded design for two pedestrian bridges to Fishback on June 6, 2025, and staff said engineering services are appropriate to design a third bridge at this location. The motion authorizes Fishback to provide design and construction administration services for the bridge and associated sidewalk improvements.
