The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 on July 8 to authorize the director of public works to execute documents necessary to implement a PG&E Rule 20 undergrounding project on St. Charles Street (State Route 49) in San Andreas.
Public Works Director Michael Martin told the board the county has sufficient Rule 20 work credits to fund the undergrounding and that PG&E will complete underground work concurrent with Caltrans activities related to a future San Andreas Complete Streets project scheduled for construction in April 2026. Martin said the county and PG&E will meet monthly to coordinate the work.
"We have more than sufficient credits to help facilitate this work," Martin said in response to a supervisor's question about credit availability.
The plan calls for utilities in the downtown San Andreas area to be trenched and placed underground to improve reliability and visual character ahead of the Complete Streets project. The county will coordinate with PG&E and Caltrans to minimize disruptions during construction. The board approved the authorization without recorded dissent.
