Calaveras supervisors approve $594,952 from PG&E settlement fund for fairgrounds generator project

The Calaveras County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 on July 8 to approve appropriations totaling $594,951.98 from a Pacific Gas & Electric settlement fund to the 39th Agricultural Association to complete a generator and related emergency-hardening work at the county fairgrounds.
County staff said the funds were originally set aside for a sewer infrastructure project at the fairgrounds; the association received a grant that reimbursed much of that work, leaving the balance available for other fairgrounds projects. The board had previously authorized the fairgrounds to hire an engineer to identify projects that support emergency services.
"We did a lot of work on a hardening plan, and then came back and identified that the generator project would really be our best use of the funds," Lori Giannini, representing the 39th Agricultural Association, told the board. She said the generator would support emergency operations during wildfire season, floods and other outages.
Under the approved process, the association will submit invoices and the county will reimburse the association as work is completed. The motion passed unanimously; no supervisor dissent was recorded.
