Residents urge San Ramon to restore remote public comment and support local nonprofit providing meeting summaries

At the start of the July 8 San Ramon City Council meeting, two residents used the public-comment period to raise access and transparency issues.
Satya Ganesan, identified as director of marketing for Open Governance, described the nonprofit’s work producing meeting summaries, speaker lists and key points and asked San Ramon residents to participate and donate to keep the service free. “Civic engagement, shouldn't require decoding PDFs, digging through minutes, or sitting through hours of meeting recordings,” Ganesan said.
A second speaker, resident Shirod Kathrani, asked the city to restore remote public participation by Zoom, saying students and some senior residents find it difficult to attend in person. Kathrani said council member Junet had previously said a staff report on Zoom participation was forthcoming but that the speaker had not yet seen that report; she asked the item be scheduled on a future council agenda so residents could participate remotely.
No formal action was taken during the public-comment period; the council chair closed public comment and moved to the consent calendar.

The concerns raised requested two staff actions: continued or increased support for local meeting-coverage nonprofits and a staff report or agenda item on restoring Zoom-based public participation. Council members did not commit to a course of action during the public-comment period.
