Summary
The Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement requested reappropriation of $36,400 to contract with the Hoodstock Foundation for case management and street-intervention services focused on people exiting incarceration or recently injured in violence.
The Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement asked council on July 8 to reappropriate $36,400 to contract with the Hoodstock Foundation to provide street-level intensive case management, outreach and wraparound services aimed at people exiting incarceration with gun charges and those recently violently injured.
Malcolm Cunningham, who presented the request for Neighborhood Safety, said Hoodstock will deliver targeted support regardless of neighborhood location and will focus on intensive case management, quick hospital- and community-based outreach, and risk reduction. "Beginning in January, we began reviewing every single incident of community violence, and developing plans, connecting with individuals in order to reduce risks," Cunningham said, urging council to approve the reappropriation. Council members welcomed funding for proven grassroots responders. Councilwoman Vanice Williams praised long-time community worker Mister Fagan for prior unpaid work and said she was pleased the city is formalizing compensation for that work. HCD staff and mayoral aides said the contract will support rapid response and trauma-recovery connections and that the city will coordinate the effort with other community-based groups, including NOVA and existing "Save Our Community" programming.
Why it matters: The contract aims to expand rapid-response resources for victims and at-risk individuals and to strengthen community-based interruption networks. The work is meant to complement hospital response, trauma services and existing neighborhood programs.
Next steps: The department requested SEP and said the Hoodstock contract will begin after reappropriation; staff will coordinate with community partners and the city
healing fund review committee to distribute accompanying emergency support where appropriate.
