Board commits $2.5 million local match to pursue $10M state WQIP sewer grant

Council members discussed prior sequencing of consent-order work and whether the town has previously spent funds on work that the WQIP might cover. Supervisor Brian Nowak and council members said prior repairs were necessary to maintain service; the WQIP match will enable more comprehensive work including private laterals where required. The board authorized the supervisor to execute application documents and committed the local match (Res. 2025-474).
Why it matters The DEC consent order requires the town to address sanitary sewer issues. The WQIP grant could cover the majority of construction costs for mainline lining and manhole rehabilitation while the town’s match would close the funding gap. That reduces the town’s capital strain compared with fully self-funded work.
Next steps Town sewer staff and consultants will prepare the WQIP application and identify specific projects and locations for the grant, and will return to the board with an application package and details on matching-fund sources.
