Town accepts county grant and hires GPI to review David Avenue pedestrian bridge abutments

The Town Board authorized an agreement with Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI) for professional services to assist the town with design review, abutment assessment and related engineering for a new prefabricated pedestrian bridge at David Avenue into Town Park. The contract is not to exceed $52,700 and will be reimbursed through a $500,000 Erie County grant secured by Legislator Tim Myers.
Supervisor Brian Nowak said Bridge Brothers Inc. will fabricate and install the prefabricated bridge while GPI will focus on abutments and related engineering. The board previously approved Bridge Brothers work and will submit invoices to Erie County for reimbursement of eligible expenses. Council members asked whether prior repairs were wasted; Supervisor Nowak and others said earlier repairs extended the bridge’s life and that the Erie County grant provides an opportunity for a long-term solution.
The board approved the GPI agreement by roll call (Res. 2025-456). Town staff and the engineering consultant will proceed with abutment inspection and coordination with Bridge Brothers before fabrication and installation.
Why it matters The David Avenue crossing is an important pedestrian link to Town Park. A prefabricated, engineered replacement funded by a county grant aims to provide a longer-term, more durable crossing compared with prior repairs.
Next steps GPI to complete abutment review, Bridge Brothers to finalize fabrication plans; town will submit reimbursement requests to Erie County per the grant agreement.
