Council awards East Van Buren water and sewer extension to Pinnacle Construction for $277,350

The McAlester City Council voted to accept the low bid of $277,350 from Pinnacle Construction Services LLC of Muskogee to construct a water and sewer extension on East Van Buren. The contract award was moved by Councilor Roden and seconded by Councilor Beatty; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all members recorded as "Yes."
City staff said the extension is a strategic investment that will allow Caring Hands to expand into a roughly 41,000-square-foot medical facility, permit an additional church and support other commercial development expected to generate sales tax revenue. The project required redesign work because parts of the original gravity sewer connection would have required excavations about 20 feet deep; staff said they rerouted the line to keep it shallower. The city also compared a lift-station (pump) option to the gravity option and bid both approaches; staff recommended the gravity solution to avoid ongoing maintenance associated with a pump station.
According to staff, the low bid from Pinnacle came in under the city’s budget for the gravity sewer option. Construction includes crossing part of the high school parking lot and needs completion before the next school year, staff said.
Council approved the bid award and directed staff to proceed with contracting and construction oversight.
