Town staffer Abby announced that the fall Citizens Academy has filled all 20 available slots and that a waiting list has formed.
Abby said the free eight-week program is intended to give residents a behind-the-scenes look at town operations and encourage civic engagement. "The goal of the free 8 week program is to inform our residents, community stakeholders about what we do every day," she said. She reported the class is diverse in age and background and that participants must attend seven of the eight sessions; the introductory session and the graduation at a council meeting are required.
The town plans to monitor the program's popularity and may run two sessions a year (spring and fall) if demand remains strong. The council thanked staff for organizing the program and welcomed the first class of participants.
No council action was required.
