Galveston IDC approves engagement of Brown & Hoffmeister for outside legal services

The Industrial Development Corporation on July 8 approved a letter of engagement with the law firm Brown & Hoffmeister to provide outside legal services to the city and the IDC.
Jeff Moore, appearing virtually as the firm’s representative, described his background in municipal economic‑development law and sales‑tax training dating to the early 2000s. Moore told the board he has worked with Type A/Type B economic development corporations and provided sales‑tax training to officials for more than two decades.
Staff said $15,000 had been set aside for legal services and that the engagement would operate on a consulting basis with in‑person or virtual participation as needed. Board members asked that any expenditures exceeding the set‑aside amount be returned to the board and City Council for approval as a budget amendment. A motion to approve the engagement was made and the board voted unanimously to accept the letter of engagement.
