Derby council clears 10-item consent agenda including Fox Fire sewer contract and SRO agreement

The Derby City Council approved a 10-item consent agenda by voice vote (5-0) at its July 8 meeting, clearing a package of routine minutes, contracts, annexations and interlocal agreements.

Items approved included minutes from May 27 and June special meetings and an assessment ordinance for abatement on a single property in the amount of $850. The council authorized a construction contract award of $1,160,277 to complete water, storm-water and sanitary-sewer improvements for Fox Fire Addition Phase 2 adjacent to the public-works facility at 50 Fifth and Woodlawn.

The council approved the School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement with USD 260 for the 2025–26 school year, which maintains five SROs and a 60/40 funding split based on 2,080 hours: the city’s share was stated as $209,320 and the school district’s share as $313,980. The council also acknowledged a notification of emergency purchase of $28,674 to JCI for a lift-station pump replacement at Warren Riverview Park.

Other items adopted: authorization for an agreement with Prado Construction for $37,362 for the 2025 Sidewalk Connection Project connecting Freedom Street to North Whittier; resolution amendments and contract authorization with Meese for $321,818 for sanitary, water and storm improvements for Village Lake Addition Lot 3; an annexation ordinance completing annexation of a 12.8‑acre tract for a future city water-treatment plant north of 90 Fifth Street South and east of Hillside; a consent annexation of a 50.8‑acre tract at the southwest corner of 50 Fifth Street South and Woodlawn submitted by Equity Trust Company (to be rezoned R‑1A in a later proceeding); and authorization for the city manager to enter an agreement with Kansas Gas for service to Dukarski Park Phase 2, not to exceed $53,409.91.

Council member Engel moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion carried 5-0.
