CB2 committee clears neighborhood block parties and small pop-ups, flags crowd-control and noise concerns

The Manhattan Community Board 2 Street Activity & Resiliency Committee on a July 2025 meeting discussed a set of neighborhood block parties and small commercial pop‑ups, approving several with conditions and pressing organizers to plan for neighbor outreach, queue management and appropriate permits.

Central Village Block Association chair Kathy Arntzen told the committee the group intends to revive a longtime Cornelia Street block concert on Saturday, Sept. 27, with a temporary stage, roughly 100 chairs and amplified sound from about 6 to 9 p.m. “There’s no commercial goods for sale. There’s no alcohol,” Arntzen said, adding past events raised small sums with raffle tickets and were intended to “raise awareness for quality of life issues in the village.” Chair Will Benish and committee members asked organizers to coordinate with the Sixth Precinct for sound permits, parking control and barricades and to notify neighbors well in advance.
