County approves amendment to Rainy Lake RV sanitary‑design engineering contract to complete sewer extension project

Koochiching County approved an amendment on July 8 to the engineering services contract for the Rainy Lake RV sanitary design and construction project, a sewer extension that will serve 43 RV sites.
County staff said the overall project budget is $375,000, funded by a $300,000 state Clean Water grant (allocated via the Voyageurs National Park Clean Waters Joint Powers Board) and a $75,000 county match. The engineering contract was originally estimated at $50,008.67. The contractor’s latest invoice and revised estimate increased the engineering services amount; county staff recommended amending the contract to a not‑to‑exceed engineering total of $57,925.59 to allow completion of construction observation, coordination (including Minnesota Power coordination for a pump‑station power route) and project close‑out.
Staff reported that construction costs are currently projected to come in under the construction contract amount and that the total projected project cost was estimated to be approximately $350,000, below the $375,000 budget. The board approved the engineering amendment by voice vote.
The public‑works presenter noted the additional engineering time was required for construction observation and coordination and recommended approval of the amendment to allow final completion and close‑out.
