Residents urge board to condemn violence in Gaza; callers raise air quality and housing concerns

Shirley Osgoode (District 3) urged the board to "speak out" against the ongoing violence in Gaza and said tax dollars are implicated. She told the board, "I would love to hear you guys speak out against it." Don Fraser of Nevada City backed that call and asked the supervisors to "Pass a resolution condemning it, write a letter to our congress people." Jeffrey Gottesman of Jewish Voice for Peace delivered a longer statement urging the county to "take a stand" and referenced U.S. weapons assistance; he said he had material to hand out to the board.
On local issues, a caller identified as Matthew Colter raised air- and water-quality concerns and said developers and out-of-town contractors had contributed to dust and emissions problems. He said prior work with RISE Gold had been addressed but urged stronger county action: "When you guys aren't doing anything about these issues, you choose not to." Another speaker, Michael, criticized planning and permitting practices and urged the county to direct the planning commission and staff to favor housing production.
Board members did not take action on the foreign-policy requests during the meeting; the record shows the public comment period closed after the speakers finished and that no resolutions or letters were adopted at this session.
