Commission reappoints local board members and reviews county fund balances

Wayne County commissioners reappointed and tabled multiple local board and authority seats during the meeting and received a monthly financial report with fund balances as of June 30, 2025.

Appointments: Commissioners approved or tabled several reappointments across river and leisure authorities, public facilities authority seats, and other local boards. Noted reappointments approved included Janice Phillips to the Aging Advisory Committee (at-large), Doug Lewis, Lindsey Thomas, Larry Brantley and others for River and Leisure Services Authority seats where commissioners indicated incumbents were willing to continue. Several appointments representing certain commissioner districts were tabled until the relevant commissioners could be present.

Financial report: The county clerk presented fund balances as of June 30, 2025: General Fund $1,822,751.42; LOST Treasury $10,390,159. plus other specified internal funds (figures presented in meeting). The clerk also reported May budget figures: revenues $1,183,081.38 and expenditures $2,359,351.38, and listed departments with budget overages including Financial Administration (12.58%), Juvenile Court (5.71%), Sheriff (1.38%), and EMS (10.79%). Commissioners did not alter budget appropriations at the meeting; they acknowledged routine overages tied to identified expense categories such as insurance claims, indigent legal fees, vehicle repairs, and medical evaluations.

Commissioners also received brief department updates, including road department activity and a nature-trail improvement by the River Authority. Several commissioners praised the road crew's work and the recreation program's recent athletic successes.
