Fairfield Union board accepts Christina Smith's retirement, schedules Aug. 18 public meeting on possible rehire

The Fairfield Union Local School District board on July 7 accepted the resignation for retirement of Christina Smith, an administrative assistant to the superintendent, effective Sept. 30, 2025. Superintendent Doug Bellville told the board Smith has expressed interest in a retire–rehire arrangement and said the district will hold a public meeting on Aug. 18 during the regular board meeting to discuss the request.
The board approved the resignation by unanimous roll call vote. The motion to accept the resignation was moved by Missus Conrad Zangmeister and seconded by Mister Hoffman; the board secretary called the roll and each member voted yes.
Bellville described the Aug. 18 session as the first formal step in the retire–rehire process and said a public notice would be posted on the district website the following day. He said the administration will also post the position to allow applicants to apply while the board considers the rehire request.
The board did not debate the substance of Smith's personnel record at the meeting; discussion centered on the procedural steps required for a retire–rehire under district policy and state rules. The superintendent said the district will follow a public process and return to the board with information at the Aug. 18 meeting.
No additional action was taken at the July 7 meeting related to staffing beyond the approved resignation and the scheduling of the Aug. 18 public meeting to consider rehire.
