Jenny Torres, program specialist for the City of Baldwin Park, told commissioners the 30th Pride of the Valley run on Aug. 2 at Morgan Park will add a 10K option (two loops of the standard course) alongside the traditional 5K and youth events.
Torres described outreach efforts that have included race expos, running clubs and billboards on the 10 and 605 freeways. She said the department uses running websites and email blasts and offers registration incentives such as a club logo on the race shirt for any club that registers 25 or more runners.
Torres said last year’s field included about 897 registered runners, of whom 260 were from Baldwin Park. As of July 7 this year she reported 352 registrants compared with 192 at the same point in 2024. She also described free youth activities (the Tiny Trot half‑mile) and a free training run club meeting Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Torres gave registration fees as $25 for the 5K (with a shirt option) and $31 for the 10K and said participants may register on the morning of the race. She also announced a sponsorship that will provide a fast‑food voucher to registrants; the promotional remarks included a brief on‑the‑record confusion about which restaurant (In‑N‑Out vs. Burger King) but Torres clarified the voucher details during her presentation.
