Jimmy Wong, program coordinator for Baldwin Park Recreation, presented the Parks Make Life Better calendar and highlighted a series of July activities at Morgan Park and other city locations.
Wong described several recurring events: Summer Splash sessions (free snow cones and water slides for ages 3–14), movies under the stars (recent showing: Inside Out 2), a dive‑in movie scheduled for an evening entry and 8 p.m. showtime, Lotería night at the Julia McNeil Senior Center on July 23, a game truck night at Z ócalo on July 26 and a Park Petting Zoo on July 29. Wong said staff distributed about 200 popsicles at a recent Paletas in the Park event and that two Summer Splash sessions are scheduled during the month.
Commissioners asked about outreach and survey collection for park projects (Morgan Park, Hill de Solis and the roadside park). Wong said staff walked the event and tabled during intermission; Maria Vavalos said the commission made announcements during the program to invite attendees to fill out surveys.
Wong invited commissioners and residents to the city council proclamation ceremony recognizing Parks Make Life Better month, which the department said is scheduled for the Thursday before an evening concert at Morgan Park; staff provided the time as 6:45 p.m. for the proclamation and a department photo.
